May Photo A Day Challenge

Here's my May photo a day challenge, a few days late. I did pretty good this time, only leaving out one day. I had more fun with it this month, and I think I'm going to try to keep it up!

1 peace

cats look so peaceful and content when they sleep. i haven't slept like that in like 2 years.

2 skyline

looking up from the back porch. i'm glad we've got several very large, older trees in the back yard. as long as they don't ever fall on the house.

3 something you wore today

not long ago i was having a conversation with someone who said that they would love to wear pj's to work. it occurred to me that, hey, i kinda do. but, to be perfectly honest, as soon as i get home i change into regular clothes because, you know, i feel like i've been in my pj's all day.

4 fun

we build a raised garden bed this month, but this afternoon i did plant some cucumbers and squash in planters to put on the back porch. in case the deer eat all our other veggies.

5 bird

this little guy was waiting his turn in line at the bird feeder.

6 you

this was the day we planted our veggies in the raised bed.

7 someone that inspires you

this is my grandfather. he is a retired lt col from the USAF, and WWII vet. his whole life is an inspiration to me.

8 a smell you adore

lavender

9 something you do every day

every night after Ian goes to bed we pick up all his toys off the floor and put the in baskets.

10 a favourite word

this is my favorite veterinary word, hands down. it looks cool, and to this day i'm not even sure i know how to pronounce it correctly. however, it's my least favorite thing to do. onychectomy is the medical term for a declaw.

11 kitchen

when we moved into our house the only thing that had been updated since the 1970's was the kitchen. not kidding, the rest of the house was covered in green shag carpet. the kitchen had, 2 years previously, been gutted and redone with beautiful maple cabinets. the kind with shelves that slide out. our kitchen is tiny, but i love the cabinetry. the only catch was they installed an apartment size stove, and it's ridiculously small. we have some remodeling dreams for the kitchen, so maybe a regular sized stove is in our future.

12 something that makes you happy

i think it's so sweet that ian loves stuffed animals. he gives them hugs and kisses.

13 mum

my first mother's day.

14 grass

i transplanted this fern into our shade bed 2 years ago, and apparently took a little grass with it. it's growing too close to the base of the fern, so it has to be cut with scissors.

15 love

i love to see these two sitting on the couch together.

16 what you're reading

i had always wanted to read this, as it is set in the fort sanders neighborhood in knoxville. j and i lived there for 7 years. i didn't even know we had it until ian pulled it out off the bookshelf. it really was a beautifully written book.

17 snack

fuji apple, my favorite.

18 something you made

i made this happy birthday banner for ian's party. the paper is leftover from stock we used to make the programs for our wedding.

19 a favorite place

love our porch swing. ian and i have spent a lot of time there this year.

20 something you can't live without

can't live without my ll bean flip flops in the summer. last summer after i had ian i didn't wear anything but these for about 2 months. seriously, i only wore flip flops and it was fabulous.

21 where you stand

how about where ian stands, because that's just about all he does now!

22 pink

impatiens on the front porch.

23 technology

despite all the advances in modern technology, we've been mowing our yard this year with this. yup, it's operated with calories, not gas. and it does a pretty darned good job.

24 something new

i wrapped some new toys for ian. birthday in t minus 2 days!

25 unusual

we got this double blooming petunia at the ut arboretum plant sale last month. it seems to be pretty hardy so far.

26 12 o'clock

ian is thinking his birthday party is going to rock!

27 something sweet

one of our closest friends got married in a beautiful ceremony on lookout mountain right outside of chattanooga.  i'm not a big cake fan, but i do like me some wedding cake. this one was soooo pretty. we had so much fun at this wedding.

28 the weather today

ninety one degrees and humid. the hydrangeas were sad about it.

29 a number

we always read to ian before naptine and bedtime. for this mornings nap we read charley harper's 123s - love the illustrations.

30 your personality - meh, i'm cheating on this one because i'm not sure how to take a picture of that. my personality? i'm me,  i guess.  so there.

31 something beautiful

today is our anniversary - nine years. this is the bouquet i carried on my wedding day. i had completely forgotten about it until my sister found it a few years ago - her mother-in-law likes to dry flowers, and apparently i asked her to do my bouquet. it was blue hydrangeas and daisies. i keep it in a vase in our living room.
