Dock Dogs

This past weekend was Oak Ridge's annual Earth Day celebration, and one of the neat activities they had was hosting a Dock Dogs competition. There were a number of competitions that took place over a 3 day period. We got to go down and watch a little of the action.

It was really entertaining.  It was nearly ninety degrees outside, sunny, and those dogs had a blast. It was so much fun seeing them before they dove into the water. Their handlers would have them sit and wait and the far end of the dock, walk to the edge, and prompt them to go, throwing a "stick" (floatation device) into the water ahead of them. The dogs were absolutely hilarious to watch, some would be just shaking with excitement before they got the go ahead to start running. In the event we saw they were judged on how far they jumped, kind of like the long jump.

We were there about an hour and a half, and Ian really seemed to enjoy watching. I was a nervous nelly about him getting burned, so he had on multiple layers of sunscreen.

We have another photographer friend, Jamie Olson, who was there all 3 days taking photos. You can see one of her photos from the event on her website by clicking here. If you are Facebook friends with her check out her photo album for the rest. Her shots are incredible! The lens on her camera was HUGE.

Here's to hoping Oak Ridge does this again next year.
