Dueling Babies

Last Fall we were super excited to find that our good friends AT and Bell over at AtomicTumor were expecting a baby. The following weekend we went over to their house to visit, and as we were leaving, AT jokingly patted J on the back and said, 'Now you all need to get pregnant, too. It would be awesome to both have little ones at the same time.' We laughed at the prospect, not knowing at the time that I was actually about 2 weeks pregnant.

About a month later we headed over to their house to let them know that yes, we would indeed be having babies at about the same time. We just about had to pick their jaws up off the floor.

And how much fun it was to be pregnant at the same time. We must have looked quite entertaining anytime we all went out together.

April 2011. Me and Bell at my baby shower. Wee PT was born just a few days later.

They were born almost exactly one month apart. A little girl for them, a little boy for us.

Since their arrival we haven't been able to hang out quite as much as we used to, but when we do get together it's something else. I repeatedly have this aha moment of trying to digest the fact that we ended up having babies at the same time. Crazy!

April 2012. Ian and WeePT.

It's been fascinating watching them develop. They are so close in age, yet do things so differently and at different rates. And they are hands down the cutest babies in the Ridge - don't you think?

This past weekend we all grilled out, and it was really the first time they truly interacted with each other. Hilarious! There was laughing, squealing, and a little bit of crying.

Here's a short clip of their interactions. WeePT is trying to show off her dance moves while Ian is focused on the flames coming off of the grill. Typical little boy.

The toy of choice for the evening was, of all things, a broom.

It was sweet, she gave him a hug. Then, at her momma's prompting, she gave him a kiss. On the rear. We just missed it on camera.

I look at them and can't help wonder what kind of relationship they will have as they grow older. It's going to be so much fun!

Ian had such a good time, he played hard, ate A LOT of food, including pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, green beans, and bread.

He fell fast asleep on the drive home, which was about about 4 blocks. Didn't wake up when we carried him inside. Didn't wake up when we changed his diaper. Didn't wake up when we changed him into his pjs.

That was one tired little boy.
