Date Night

Yay for date nights!

Friday J took me out for a night downtown, and we sure did have a blast.

Mid afternoon I loaded up everything but the kitchen sink into the car, and took the little man over to my folks house. They were gracious enough to give up their Friday night and watch him for the evening.

I get there and begin unloading everything. My dad looks at all of the assorted baby paraphernalia I was bringing into their house and asked in a joking manner, 'You brought bottles, right?'

. . . . (we won't discuss how many 4 letter words ran through head at that moment)

Driving out their house I had given myself a mental pat on the back for remembering all the essentials - he had shots earlier in the day, so I had even thought to remember to bring a thermometer and Tylenol - go me!  Dad was sweet and went out to Wal-Mart and bought a bottle for him.

Turns out that was the only hitch in the evening.

Dinner at our most favorite restaurant, Sunspot. Our waiter came by and asked if we would like a drink - why yes kind sir, what fancy beers are on tap? We both went for the Rogue Chocolate Stout, and let me tell you it was heaven in a pint. Mmmm, and when J decided it was a little too sweet for his palate I graciously offered to finish his. No need to waste, you know.

Appetizer of spicy queso, an old staple from our college days. My dinner was chipotle BBQ portabello mushrooms and fried green tomatoes, both covered in salsa. Delicious.

Afterwards we headed downtown and were lucky to have no problems parking - the Knoxville Christmas parade had just dispersed and it was neat watching all the families that filled the sidewalks  - I so look forward to taking Ian to those!

The rest of our evening was filled with holiday cheer at the Square Room where we saw Christabel and the Jons put on their 5th Annual Christmas Show. We've been to all 5, thank you very much!

The music, as always, was amazing. My personal favorite was their rendition of O Holy Night. It was so moving I got a big ol' silly lump in my throat during the violin solo. I swear it was so quiet in that room you could hear a pin drop! I'm totally in the Christmas spirit now.

Sitting there, with J's arm around my shoulders and my hand in his, it just struck me as to what a charmed life we are living. I feel so lucky.

We drove back and picked Ian up from my parents house. He was sound asleep in the pack n play, so cute I can't even put it into words.

I hope they had fun watching him, we sure appreciated it. It was a wonderful night out!
